RECALL PETITIONS CERTIFIED BY LA COUNTY REGISTRAR-RECORDER

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk has certified petitions to recall Judge Gibson W. Lee. Petition supporters have 160 days to gather petition signatures from Los Angeles County voters.

Families of the victims of the so-called “Long Beach Halloween Hate Crime”, along with community leader Michael A. Jackson and Government for the People launched a recall campaign against Judge Gibson W. Lee, who presided over a two-and-a-half month trial where nine juveniles were convicted of multiple counts of felony assault and hate crimes. Had they been charged as adults, some of the convicted felons could have received up to sixteen years in state prison, yet were sent home on the day of sentencing by Judge Lee.

“My daughter and her 2 friends were brutally attacked and nearly beaten to death in Bixby Knolls on Halloween night,” stated Barbara Schneider, mother of one of the victims, “and Judge Lee sent the 9 convicted felons home on the day of sentencing. The girls have still not recovered from their facial, skull and brain injuries. Judge Lee recycled these violent, unremorseful and unrehabilitated felons back into our community.”

“The police and district attorneys work long, hard hours to catch and prosecute violent criminals, only to have this judge release them right back onto our streets to terrorize the community all over again!” Schneider continued.

A kickoff petition-signing event has been scheduled for Saturday, June 23 in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach, near the scene of the Long Beach Halloween Hate Crime. Petitions will be available for signatures at Ralphs, located on Long Beach Blvd. at San Antonio St. in Long Beach beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Petitions will also be circulated on Sunday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bixby Knolls Street Fair, on Atlantic Ave. near San Antonio St. in Long Beach, CA.
